#56 Wide Bot Video Surveillance

Surveillance video of #8 Wide Bot before video feed was cut

(and yes, I am pinched for time today so I fell back on a 'shop job).

#55 Corky

This one wanted to be called Corin but everyone just knows it as Corky.

#54 Robo Santo

Crudely carved robot candle, Saint Robotica. First time playing around with wax carving, may try this again with more heat on my carving instruments

#53 70's Movie Poster

This is try #2, my first version which looked much better was eaten by inkscape as I did not export it properly. So back to GIMP to do it.

#52 Another Mugshot

"Where is Doctor Smith?"

Ah, if only it would answer. But given time and a few strategically placed magnets they may eventually find out what became of Doctor Smith.

#51 This Charming Automaton

With a nod to the Smiths for the title, robot charm made from some assorted beads and findings.

#50 Keychain Bot

My awesome wife found a little keychain wooden bot-like item at the craft store and got it for me. So here it is, all 2 inches of it painted and robotimized!

#48 Scrapheap Bound

Poor bot is so old nobody knows what purpose it was built for. Now it just waits to be scrap material for the next robot.....

I have plans for the container that was used here, so this will be indeed recycled into something else.

Back in Oregon

I am back home in Oregon and appreciating the fact it's not 97 and a heat index of 105. I lived on the Gulf Coast for about 10 years in New Orleans and Houston but coming back to oppressive humidity just was awful. Found a few things from my dad's shed/stuff to ship home for future bots, he was a master of not throwing any potentially usable component out. But due to the heat down in the shed I didn't search as thoroughly as I might have otherwise, next time I'll go down to Florida in fall/winter.

#47 Plugbot in motion

Another day, another image manipulation. Plugbot posterized and motion layered.

#46 ASCII Bot

Why? because I am at the airport and will shortly be flying for the next many hours arriving home to Portland about Midnight PDX time, 3am time that I've adjusted to (Eastern). And since blogger effs up my alignment, screen shot to gif powers....ACTIVATE!

#45 BBQ!

Who wouldn't want an autonomous bot with fire in its belly cooking up good eats at your next party?

Sunday, July 18, 2010

#44 Bulbous Bot

Made today from a bulb, socket and a couple other random things my dad collected in his shed.

#43 Basket Bottom

Found object, a little toy that shoots a ball in the air, I think my dad played with the cat with it.

Friday, July 16, 2010

#42 ElectroBot

Made from some electrical connectors and parts my dad had collected over the years.

#41 Personal AC

Today was pretty busy (and boiling hot, not enjoying near 100 degrees with high humidity, there's a reason I don't live on the gulf anymore). Made me wish for a personal air conditioning robot to walk along with me and I'd stay in the cone of AC.

#40 Found Bots

I tried to post this via SMS last night but blogger limits pic sizes. So here is a found robot from last night. I am in the Tampa, Florida area visiting my mom, we stopped by the Seminole Hard Rock casino and had dinner there, the salt and pepper shakers looked like little robots. My mom feels they are better as robots than salt and pepper shakers since we couldn't get anything out of them. Cheating? Maybe a little but considering my day started at 3am if I made one it probably be barely a doodle. One to come today for sure.

#39 Phoning it in with Sharpie

Phoning it in today, finishing packing for my trip and a bunch of other things so here's a quick Sharpie drawing.

#37 Yes, Robot Butler Again

Yes, I had to revisit the robot butler again. This time I made a Sculpey clay model. About 4 inches tall, silver spray paint and paper bow tie with a foil tray.

#36 Paper Bender Bending Rodriguez

With the hotter and drier weather here in Portland it made good conditions for papier mache! And what better robot to make a paper version of than Bender Bending Rodriguez from Futurama! Bite my tempera painted matte finish ass!

This is about 4 hours work start to finish, I used the oven to dry out the paste instead of the sun though - had to be sure I could get it done today.

You know he kicks it with the Old Fortran Malt Liquor!

#35 Oil Painting (via GIMP)

Since I've already done some recycling this week I recycled again. Took my robot butler and cleaned the base image up in GIMP - an open source photo editor/image manipulator. Applied some background and textures and ran through a filter to get an oil painting effect.

Road trip soon but robots will continue

I'll be making a road trip next week and may not have net access a couple days but I will still make a robot that day (probably drawn on days I fly). I will post them when I can get access again.

Now a month in I'm happy I've been able to post something every day. Not happy that I haven't branched out much but I still have the better part of 11 months to do so. With summer kicked in and work, the big challenge is time+motivation. I spent most of 30 years living in the desert or on the gulf coast and no longer tolerate heat like I used to so when the mercury creeps up above 90 I become a melted lump.

Thanks to the followers who've stuck with it this far, I'll keep it up and hope to polish my offerings and improve my techniques!

#34 Stencil

Again inspired by the Skullmaster I did a stencil of #30 Lego Bot.

Another stencil will happen, something different than a silhouette.

#33 Robot Butler

It's hot (95 today in Portland), I have no AC in my home office and I'm tired. Here's a robot butler to serve you a drink.

Tuesday, July 6, 2010

#32 Pipe Cleaner

So the actual new name for these would be 'Chenille Stems' but when I was growing up they were just pipe cleaners. My dad always had a pack of them, little yellow paperboard envelope.

Monday, July 5, 2010

#31 CYBORG PANDA

What is more disturbing than a cyborg panda? How about a cyborg panda with a wrist mounted projectile launcher!

Squeeze stress panda assimilated with some computer parts.

#30 Lego Bot

One month in! Dug out the Legos and got to building after hunting for certain pieces. I may revisit Legos again later as there are just too many good pieces for bot making.

Saturday, July 3, 2010

#29 Parrot Bot

I sorted through my big box o' computer parts today (giant rubbermaid tote) and pulled some things out for this project. Came up with this Intel powered thing, which after I was done looked sort of like a parrot, so there it is. "Squawk! Polly want a stop bit!"

#28 Last second doodle

I'm pretty tired tonight but I had to get something out. So here's a robot with a Snidely Whiplash mustache.

#27 Disco Bot Likes Disco Music!

Taking some inspiration from Love Boat and Futurama (Isaac and I-Zak) I bring you Disco Bot. Been falling back on sketches this week, will work on some bots of more substance during the 3 day weekend.
